About Our Ball Pythons
Whether you’re buying one of our ball pythons for sale or our competitions there is one question you should have answered without a doubt. “Where did this ball python come from?” Ball pythons are either “bush babies” or “captive bred”. I promise you that buying a captive bred ball pythons is in your best interest for a variety of reasons we’ll discuss further.
Every one of our ball pythons are 100% captive bred from 2 parents raised who are also raised in captivity.
Captive Bred Ball Pythons
A true captive bred ball python comes from an egg fertilized by two parents who are both captive bred. 90% of the pet stores selling ball pythons, sell wild caught snakes. Unfortunately they often get labeled as captive bred because they harvest the eggs from the wild and hatch them in captivity. This increases the profit margin to the pet stores because they don’t have to care for the snakes throughout the year when they’re not breeding. That’s why a captive bred snake is more expensive.
The advantage of captive bred ball pythons is three fold. Most importantly a snake hatched and captivity is guaranteed to be free from internal parasites. On the flip side bush babies, or wild caught ball pythons, are almost guaranteed to have at least one internal parasite investing their bodies. Unfortunately it’s nearly impossible to rid a pet snake of parasites after infected. Why take the risk?
The second advantage of a captive bred ball python is the make much better pet snakes. Ball pythons are hands down the most popular pet snake and a captive bred ball is that much better. Ball pythons are non-aggressive snakes by nature, however a captive bred ball python tends to be more calm and trusting of their owners than wild ball pythons.
Lastly, ball pythons that are captive bred are easier to feed. If a ball python is found in the wild they generally feed on gerbils. While you can easily find gerbils to feed your ball pythons they are much more expensive than mice. Ball pythons that are captive bred come right out of the egg knowing that mice are their primary food source.
Our ball pythons for sale are 100% guaranteed captive bred, guaranteed parasite free, and guaranteed to eat!
Wild Bred Ball Pythons
Whether the ball pythons are captured in the wild as babies or bred in the wild but hatched in captivity it’s considered a wild bred ball python. These snakes can and do thrive as pet snakes, but as we mentioned before it’s likely they have a disease or internal parasite. A lot of time gravid (pregnant) females are captured and the eggs are hatched in captivity in country far from the United States. The few months they spend in these 3rd world countries exposes them to some very harsh conditions where the diseases and parasites are introduced.
Unfortunately buying a ball python comes down to trust. Do you trust the pet stores who buy snakes from wholesalers without knowing the true origin of their ball pythons?
